Privacy

Last updated 30 August 2026

The short version. The app has no account, no telemetry and no analytics. The locations you set, the routes you build and the devices you connect never leave your Mac — we could not see them if we wanted to. The only personal data we hold is what a purchase requires: your email address and Stripe's identifiers for your payment.

The app on your Mac

Elsewhere makes no network request to us, ever, except one: when you hold a paid licence it asks our server for a refreshed licence token, sending only the licence identifier. There is no account to create and no sign-in.

Everything else is local. Your saved places, routes, history, preferences and the licence itself live in macOS preferences and application support on your own machine. Map searches and route lookups go directly from your Mac to Apple, under Apple's own privacy terms, and are not proxied through us. If you supply your own Mapbox or Google key for live traffic, those requests go from your Mac to that provider.

We never receive a coordinate. Not one.

If you buy

A purchase creates one database row containing: your email address, the plan, the subscription status, Stripe's customer, subscription and checkout-session identifiers, and timestamps. That is the complete list. It exists so that we can reissue your key when you reinstall and answer "what did I buy".

Card details never reach us. Payment is handled entirely by Stripe on Stripe's own pages; we receive an identifier and the last status, never a card number.

Who else touches it

We use no advertising networks, no analytics, no tracking pixels and no third-party cookies. This site sets no cookies at all, which is why there is no cookie banner.

How long we keep it

For as long as the licence is live, plus the period our payment processor requires us to retain transaction records for tax and accounting, which is typically seven years. Ask us to delete earlier and we will, subject to those obligations; deleting your record ends the licence.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you may ask us for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@itselsewhere.app and a person answers. If you are in the EU, the UK, California or another jurisdiction with statutory data rights, these are those rights and we do not distinguish: everyone gets the same treatment because the data set is the same and it is tiny.

We do not sell personal information, and we never have.

Children

Elsewhere is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, customers are emailed. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
